First Nations Version Psalms & Proverbs

The First Nations Version Translation Council completed the work on Psalms and Proverbs! InterVarsity Press releases Psalms and Proverbs as a stand alone book on August 5th, 2025.

Donations are still appreciated as we continue to work with IV Press on the publication process of the remainder of the Old Testament.

Miigwech (thank you).

Rain Ministries and the First Nations Version

Under the leadership of Terry and Darlene Wildman, Rain Ministries plans to translate the remainder of the Old Testament for the First Nations Version (FNV).

The FNV New Testament was released by InterVarsity Press on August 31, 2021. Since then, thousands of people—both First Nations and others—have embraced it as one of their primary translations. Some Native organizations have even made it their official New Testament. Thousands of copies have been distributed on reservations, often with the support of tribal councils.

Due to frequent requests for the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament), Rain Ministries began work on Psalms and Proverbs after much prayer and encouragement. On July 1, 2022, InterVarsity Press contracted with Rain Ministries to publish the translation. Originally estimated to take two years, the project was completed a month early.

Dave Ohlson, with over 50 years of experience working with Indigenous cultures, returned as Project Translation Consultant. The translation team expanded to include Professor Amy Nicole Allan (Choctaw, Tuscarora, and Cherokee), a PhD student, and Dr. L. Daniel Hawk, Professor of Old Testament and Hebrew at Ashland Seminary in Ohio. Dr. Julene Pommert (Southern Blackfeet) also joined the team. Together, they served as Hebrew language consultants.

Our Psalms and Proverbs Translation Council and Consultants

A new Translation Council was formed, including members from the first council and some new faces. Our council served as indigenous consultants and reviewers. Our Project Consultant from the FNV/NT continued with us. We have also welcomed 3 Hebrew language consultants.
